I promise this will not be a continuing series of posts (if for no other reason than it would leave little room for anything else).
Yesterday, Bob Dole noted that John Kerry's 3 purple hearts were all for superficial wounds, none of which required hospitalization. Dole also said that Kerry should apologize for the criticisms he leveled at the soldiers who were left behind to fight the war after Kerry returned to the US to become an anti war celebrity.
Yahoo did not report Dole's comments when originally made, but this is their "In the News" summary from today at 5:57 PM, CT; note item 3:
• U.S. increases pressure on Najaf rebels
• Iran says not backing radical Iraqi cleric
• Vietnam vets defend Kerry, criticize Dole
• Peterson defense cross-examines Frey
• Study: 1 in 3 U.S. adults has hypertension
• Hamm waits out boos to win high bar silver
• Olympics - Results - Medals - Schedule
Yahoo's pattern, which it apparently learned from the New York Times, Washington Post, L.A. Times, etc., is to not report stories critical of Kerry, but to wait until the Kerry campaign responds, then report the response. This allows the Kerry camp time to frame the issue in a light favorable to them, and to mis-characterize the original criticism.
Many people in the blogsphere consider the internet to be a reliable source for unbiased news, in contrast to "Big Media." The purpose of these two posts is to point out that even a purely internet based news service like Yahoo can be just as biased as any traditional news outlet.
